Funding Officer

Do you care about wildlife and want to do something to make a difference?

Would you like to use your communication skills and experience in funding to help nature?

We are looking for a Funding Officer to join our team. Could it be you?

As a Funding Officer for Plymouth Environmental Action (PEA), your main role will be to research and apply for grants and work with our committee to plan conservation projects and events. You will use your excellent written communication skills to excite potential funders about our work enabling our organisation to keep working for nature and for people. In this role you will be part of a small, friendly team and gain experiences with every new conservation project.

What we are looking for in a Funding Officer:

You will have a passion for the environment, as well as excellent written communication skills and an ability to work well in a team. Previous experience in writing funding applications is preferred, but transferable skills and experiences will be considered. We are looking for a Funding Officer who can commit to attending our monthly committee meetings and spend time researching and applying for grants. Being based in or near Plymouth would be preferable in order to build a local network, and would also offer the opportunity to combine this role with that of a Conservation Leader, if desired (please see separate role description). However, this role could also be performed remotely by the right candidate.

Funding Officer responsibilities:

  • Researching grant opportunities for PEA

  • Applying for grants, with assistance from the committee

  • Working with the Treasurer and other committee members to develop budgets for grant applications

  • Working as part of the committee plan and develop new projects and events

  • Attending monthly committee meetings

What we need from you:

Essential:

  • A love of the environment and the ability to work well with others

  • Excellent written communication skills

  • Willingness to dedicate time to researching and writing funding applications throughout the year

  • Ability to attend monthly committee meetings to organise future events, develop new projects and take on basic organisational responsibilities to keep PEA running smoothly

Desirable:

  • Experience of writing funding application, or similar transferable skills

  • Experience of creating budgets

  • Experience of volunteering or working in the conservation or non-profit sector

Treasurer

Would you like to use your financial/accounting skills to benefit nature?

We are looking for a Treasurer to join our team. Could it be you?

As the Treasurer for Plymouth Environmental Action (PEA), you will work as part of a friendly and supportive committee to assist in managing the running of the organisation. You will use your financial and accounting skills to oversee PEA’s finances, including monitoring the bank account along with a second signatory, managing the payment of invoices and expenses and keeping track of income and expenditure. You will also have a role in monitoring the spending of external funding and will be expected to report on finances to the committee at our monthly meetings.

What we are looking for in a Treasurer:

You will have a passion for the environment, as well as good financial management skills and an ability to work well in a team. You may also have experience in managing the finances of a small organisation. Some experience of working with committees or non profit organisations would be beneficial, but not essential. We are looking for a Treasurer who can commit to attend our monthly committee meetings and spend time each month to monitor and briefly report on the finances of our organisation. Being based in or near Plymouth would be preferable, in order to build a local network, and would also offer the opportunity to combine this role with that of a Conservation Leader if desired (please see separate role description). However, this role could also be performed remotely by the right candidate.

Treasurer responsibilities:

  • Overseeing PEA’s bank account, including monitoring income and expenditure and updating the committee regularly.

  • Ensuring invoices and payments are made in a timely manner.

  • Along with the Project Officer, preparing and sending out invoices to landowners and companies who use our services.

  • Preparing and delivering an annual financial summary at the AGM.

  • Attending monthly committee meetings and work with the committee team to develop funding budgets and costings.

What we need from you:

Essential:

  • A love of the environment and the ability to work well with others.

  • Experience in managing finances, preferably in a small organisation.

  • Willingness to commit time regularly each month to completing these tasks and keep the committee updated.

Desirable:

  • A qualification in book-keeping, finance or accounting

  • Experience of volunteering or working in the conservation or non-profit sector

  • Experience in writing funding applications
